Jesus was who He was because He knew His Father.‭  ‬He said He only did what He saw the Father doing and His bread was to do the Father's will.‭  ‬He spoke about‭ "‬My Father‭" ‬and said that He came to earth to show us the Father.‭ ‬ His close personal relationship with the Father in Heaven drove many to hate and kill Him.

Humans mostly do not know their Heavenly Father.‭  ‬There is a persistent wound not even healed in the hearts of many believers.‭  ‬Malachi‭ ‬4:6‭ ‬states the desire of God's heart to‭ ‬"turn the hearts of the fathers to their children,‭ ‬and the hearts of the children to their fathers‭; ‬or else I will come and strike the land with a curse‭"‬.‭ 

Possibly the most powerful parable in the Bible is that of the‭ "‬prodigal son‭" ‬who rejects his father and is yet lavishly welcomed on his return.

THE ORPHAN SPIRIT

Jesus knew His disciples would feel abandoned.‭ ‬ While preparing his disciples for His death and the coming of the Holy Spirit,‭ ‬he tells them "I will not leave you as orphans‭; ‬I will come to you.‭" (‬John‭ ‬14:18‭)

The orphan spirit comes from the deep wound of being abandoned.‭  ‬All have some degree of the orphan spirit.‭  ‬Those who were supposed to love you completely and unconditionally failed you and left a scare that said,‭ "‬You are not worthy‭"‬.

R.I.‭ ‬Holmes says‭; "‬So what are the hallmarks of an orphan spirit‭? ‬-‭ ‬Inability to have lasting relationships‭ ‬-‭ ‬Hatred of authority,‭ ‬general distrust for leaders‭ ‬-‭ ‬General lack of direction for your life‭ ‬-‭ ‬Inability to make key,‭ ‬strategic decisions‭ ‬-‭ ‬Drawing near,‭ ‬then backing away from intimacy‭ ‬-‭ ‬A sense that they're just going to reject you anyway‭ ‬-‭ ‬A gnawing sense of failure,‭ ‬never quite good enough‭ ‬-‭ ‬An inexplicable drive to succeed,‭ ‬win,‭ ‬prove yourself‭.

Ras Robinson writes,‭ "‬Feeling like an orphan can be debilitating.‭  ‬It has to do with sensing in your heart that you have no inheritance,‭ ‬no real heritage,‭ ‬no sense of security in feeling protected and that no one really cares about your destiny.‭ ‬Most people affected with feeling like an orphan also feel and fear abandonment‭"‬.

WE HAVE BEEN ADOPTED

No matter how perfect our background and childhood, we only find our full worth as children of the Father.‭ ‬ The gift of the Spirit of God to us does so much more than healing and tongues.‭  ‬It changes our nature,‭ ‬names‭ and ‬home.

Jephthah was the illegitimate son of Gilead and a prostitute.‭  ‬His half brothers say to him,‭ ‬"You shall not have an inheritance in our father's house,‭ ‬for you are the son of another woman‭"‬ (Judges‭ ‬11‭)‬.‭ ‬Enter the orphan spirit.‭ ‬Disinherited,‭ ‬rejected,‭ ‬wounded in the house of his father. 

Jephthah fled,‭ ‬and the Lord brought to him,‭ ‬like He did for David,‭ ‬an army.‭  ‬Then Ammon invaded Israel and the elders came to him,‭ ‬begging for help.‭  ‬They invited him back and accepted him as leader. ‭ ‬Japhthah could have said,‭ "‬But you drove me out,‭ ‬you hated me‭," ‬but he rose above that orphan voice.   ‬He defeated the Ammonites,‭ ‬and Ephraimites‭ (‬42,000‭ ‬of them‭) ‬and became judge over Israel for six years.‭  ‬No wonder Hebrews‭ ‬11:32‭ ‬says he was a man who‭ ‬"conquered kingdoms,‭ ‬performed acts of righteousness,‭ ‬obtained promises‭"‬.‭  ‬He overcame the orphan spirit and inherited.

‭"‬For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear,‭ ‬but you have received the Spirit of adoption by which we cry,‭ ‬Abba,‭ ‬Father‭! ‬ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.‭  ‬And if we are children,‭ ‬then we are heirs‭; ‬heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ‭."‬ (Romans‭ ‬8:15-17‭)

 -‭ ‬Fear‭ ‬is not of God‭ ‬-‭ ‬fear of failure,‭ ‬rejection,‭ ‬unworthiness,‭ ‬inadequacy,‭ ‬incompetence.‭ ‬ Fear drives but love draws.
 -‭ ‬Our security is complete as we know who we belong to.
 - The Spirit in us empowers us to say‭ "‬My benevolent Father‭".
 -‭ ‬Sons and daughters inherit the wealth of the Father.
 -‭ ‬Confidence in knowing our Father negates people's opinion‭ and ‬approval.
 -‭ With Him on our side we live and love as the God of all creation does.

"Praise be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,‭ ‬who blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.‭  ‬For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world,‭ ‬to be holy and blameless in His sight.‭  ‬In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ‭ ‬...‭"‬  (Ephesians‭ ‬1:3-5‭)

 -‭ Believers already have every spiritual blessing‭ ‬-‭ ‬BELIEVE‭ & ‬TAKE IT.
 -‭ He chose us‭ ‬-‭ ‬made us holy in His sight by the blood of Jesus‭.
 -‭ An affirmation of the blessings God has given us‭ ‬-‭ ‬Spiritual blessings.
 -‭ ‬God planned before creation that we be adopted.

In the USA,‭ ‬Australia‭ and ‬Canada an adopted child cannot not disinherited‭ = ‬receives equal to the surviving spouse.
