The Cross & the Cost

by Erik Momsen

I recently read a quote that stated "The believer who forgets that his whole Christian life is a battle against evil is badly mistaken". It is a battle that takes place in the market place, home and inner life. It is the ultimate battle because it is the battle for the soul.

Only Good

by Erik Momsen

It is not easy to see the good in the world. You have to look real hard. The news is only bad news and even the Bible says, “woe to the earth and the sea because the devil has gone down to you!” (Revelation 12:12) The one truth that sticks in my mind and my experience is that “God is Good”. Let me immediately agree with the critics that people are not. We trust in them and they let us down. We put our hope in them and they hurt us. But God is Good.

No Looking Back

by Erik Momsen

As 2012 comes to an end we are tempted to either dwell in the past or to make elaborate plans for the future. Being stuck in the past or driven by a illusionary future is not of God. This said I believe the greatest danger for most is allowing the past to determine our future. Nearly all will have failures and hurts but this is not where God is. The God of the Bible is in the future.

The Promised Gift

by Erik Momsen

As I have become older I have lost my childlike affinity for gifts. I am still embarrassed by my reaction to a gift I received from my wife. It cost too much and in any event I would have used the money better on something else. I would have bought more wisely. The point is that the giver determines the gift. Have you not found that as you mature the act of finding the gift for someone special is more exciting than receiving something?

A Faith that's R.E.A.L.

I hate things that are not real. I’d rather not have a chair than have a leather-look one. It must be sad to wear fake gold. Those who know me would find it hard to picture me in a heavy gold chain. I just don’t have the chest for it. The word REAL has become very important in our age with mass production, copyright infringement and unoriginality. A group of young Britons from the Vineyard sang "many are asking who will show us something real, longing for hope beyond the pain of what they feel" ... People know their need for a genuine faith but they see too little of it around and so are fearful and distrusting of institutions of faith.

The Manifestation of the Spirit

by Erik Momsen

The church in many parts of the world is in distress because we have forgotten that the church was born and lives by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is the breath of God in us. The New Testament Church was a supernatural body of people and we must follow in these ways.

A Faith that Works

by Erik Momsen

The fact that you are sitting here this morning or reading these thoughts indicates that you have some small measure of faith, or at least want some. There exists a natural measure of faith in all. We have faith that the roof above our heads will not spontaneously fall in on us or our vehicles will not explode the moment we put the key into the ignition. Without this most basic of faiths, we are regarded as mentally ill.

Convict, Counsel, Comfort

by Erik Momsen

The human race is not doing well because we were not intended to walk alone. We were made to be in constant friendship and relationship with the Living God but that is no longer true for the majority. A New Covenant or second chance is however available through the blood and water. Blood and water spilled from the side of Jesus, the Messiah. Blood cleanses the sin and the water of the Spirit fills the lonely soul.

At Work in the City

by Erik Momsen

I have often wondered about the nature of work. Some have it, too many do not. When we have it we often complain about it. I love the advert, there are not many to love, that asks us to stop complaining about how long it takes to get to work, "After all it is work". Work is a mixed blessing. As some say "You can’t live with it and you can’t live without it". The blessing in it is that it was God’s idea. He gave Adam a job. God blessed them: "Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth." (Genesis 1:28)

At Home in the City

by Erik Momsen

The most important aspect of human life is under severe threat. The foundation and sanctuary of our lives is being mismanaged and attacked from every corner. I am referring to marriage and family. Some are even asking if these institutions are still valid. This might be a valid question taken the levels of breakup and violence in the home.

Saved in the City

by Erik Momsen

Pastors and church leaders think, plan and pray that people in the city will get saved, but I wonder if many visualize this happening. We have been seeing what I believe is the first part of a new harvest of men and then women. I start with men because it is God’s last word in the old covenant (or before the kingdom broke in).

Blessing the City

by Erik Momsen

Christians have the greatest purpose of all peoples. We have the task of completing the work Jesus started on earth. The greatest rock group of modern times sang "and the battle’s just begun, to claim the victory Jesus won" (U2:1981). The fundamentals of the Good News is that God loves the world and it's people so much that He was prepared to die for it. The challenge now lies in getting this truth to a world that believed the lie of satan for thousands of years.
