Humble King
Our impression of God will influence how we act. It is a little like, "monkey see monkey do". When we focus on God the healer, we believe in healing, start hoping and praying for healing and start seeing healings happening. We however focus a lot on God the triumphant, might and awesome. This is all true but people start stomping around as if these properties are our own. We see this in the brothers Zebedee wanting the prime spot in heaven and causing a ruckus among the disciples (Matt. 20). I was however deeply impacted by a reading of Luke 15, the Lost Son. Perhaps for the first time I realized that we serve a humble God. We often hear of a loving God, but a humble God?

Making a Difference
A fortune five hundred company was bleeding staff. From all levels of the company people were leaving. They tried improving working conditions, gave great increases and dramatically improved peoples work space. Still people kept leaving. A consultant was called in to stop the rot. The first question he asked was, "What does this business do?" "We make pharmaceuticals" was the reply. "Be more specific" he demanded. "We make medicines that fight life threatening deceases in children". "Then put up photographs of children and their stories. Tell your staff how what they do saves children's lives. Tell them how they make a difference", said the consultant. People stopped leaving. Our work and lives have to mean something. How much more our faith!

What on earth are we here for?
If you thought this heading was a cry of despair, it was not. It is the most fundamental question a human must answer. Why am I here?

The Spirit Convicts
The single biggest problem, perhaps the only problem on earth, is sin. This is not a popular concept but it is the Bible's view and it is true. If we believe this is true then the biggest single problem in my life is sin. I’m sure this is again not popular with many. This could be sin I knowingly commit. The sins of others and sin I commit without knowing it. Some of the last words of Jesus are "Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing." (Luke 23:34) He was referring to the crucifixion, but I believe this also applies to many other situations.

Our Purpose as a Church
The Bible tells us to do many things. Too many for any person to remember or attempt. Since there are so many, we get confused and attempt very little. There are however two vital passages in scripture that can be our legs to stand on. These passages are called the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

Authority & Blessing
"And God blessed them. And God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply and fill the earth, and subdue it. And have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the heavens, and all animals that move upon the earth". (Genesis 1:28) God's plan for us was blessing and order. There seems to be less and less of this in the world but there is a way for believers to take on that authority and order that results in blessing. God's well oiled creation has had the spanner of rebellion and disobedience thrust into it's spokes but the advancing Kingdom can turn this around.

The Works of Jesus
One of the simplest yet wisest calls upon the church is to do the "words and works of Jesus". Focus upon Jesus is the life and direction of every believer and of the church itself. We unfortunately get side-tracked and confused and follow other directions and models that are not Jesus.

Presence
"I will never leave you of forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5 cf Deuteronomy 31:6) These are words ever person craves from their deepest being. But parents so often forsake their children. Lovers are short lived and people we trust desert us. Who will be there for us no matter what? No one, no one!!! I have become aware in the last days that walking a daily faith and just keeping going is a journey into simplicity. It doesn't matter what I know but who I know --- or better who knows me. My walk of faith is no more or less than the One who speaks to me day by day, moment by moment.

But have no love, I am nothing
Do you fear that it will all come to nothing? That you will have no meaning and miss your goals? Do you fear that you will lose your life? Not just die but live and die without making your mark. "I want to be something, I want to make something of my life, I want to leave behind a legacy" is the modern title of thousands of books. By the way, Jesus says that those who lose their lives for his sake will gain it (Matthew 10:39)

Naturally Supernatural (iii)
As we long for the kingdom of Jesus Christ to be extended on earth we must recognise the miraculous character of the New Testament accounts of what Jesus and the first disciples did. Even today it is claimed that about 70% of the church's growth is among Pentecostal and charismatic groups. The preaching of the gospel is not enough. Paul tells us: "I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom but on God's power." (1 Corinthians 2:3-5)

Most people here today know that the Bible speaks about miracles, healings and the driving out of demons. Most people here today believe, at a mental level, that miracles, healing and driving out of demons is possible. Yet very few of us are actively involved in miracles, healings and driving out of demons. Something is going wrong between the our heads, hearts and hands.

Naturally Supernatural
Are you happy with a few hip songs, some powerless prayers and a thought provoking talk, or would you like your life to be like those believers in the New Testament? The reality is that too many would really like only a few outward trappings of religion and not get into the spiritual stuff. The reason for this is that Christianity is dangerous and could demand your life. The problem is, outward religious practise without any power soon leaves people bored and looking for something else. The 'something else' could be spiritism (John Edwards "Crossing Over"), sensuality or materialism.
