This question haunts me. “Why does the good news struggle to break into people's heart? Why do people not want to follow the Lord of Love? Why do they not believe that God is Good and that He loves them?”
I believe the largest part of the answer is that God's messengers, the present believers, have failed on the primary issue. We get angry that people do not believe and behave and we have the completely wrong game plan. IF the greatest gift is “Love” then why is it so absent in the body of Christ?
We are really in the end times. We are in a time of lovelessness and we might stay here a long time. "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many will become cold." (Matthew 24:12). Jesus is saying that because of our sin our love is not evident.
I am not saying that believers do not try. The world doesn't even try. We have just lost it. There is so much sin in the world that we just want to hide and our own hearts become fearful and bitter. Our love has grown cold and run dry. “I just cannot do it any more”, is what family members say to each others. “I am finished with you and I cannot go on”.
CALLED TO BE GOD'S LOVE LETTER TO THE WORLD
“You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart." (2 Corinthians 3:2-3)
Believers should carry each other on their hearts.
Believer do not fool yourself. The world is reading you like a book. They know the world does not love them but they are looking to us to see if we do. They are looking to see if this “God of Love” really does exist and the only place they know to look is us. Most of the time they only get judgment and rejection.
Todd White who was an atheist and drug addict for 22 years and hated Christians said. “If you are not happy with what you have got, then why should I want it”.
The gospel – good news of God's love & forgiveness” - is written on the hearts of believers by the Holy Spirit OR it is not there at all!
HOW DO WE CHANGE THIS ???
Know that without love we are nothing – a radical re-examination !!!
"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I have become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have prophecies, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so as to move mountains, and do not have love, I am nothing. And though I give out all my goods to feed the poor, and though I deliver my body to be burned, and have not love, I am profited nothing." (1 Corinthians 13:1-3)
LOVE IS A GIFT FROM HEAVEN
“That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." (Ephesians 3:16-19)
Love is a gift of the Spirit and not your natural state.
Christ by His Spirit must dwell in your heart – welcome Him by faith.
Our root and foundation is Love – No love and we collapse.
With His Spirit we understand the GREATNESS of this Love.
Knowing this Love we are filled with the Fullness of God.
We only become the messengers of God - the fragrance of Christ when we are carrying this Love of God in us by His Spirit.
WITHOUT THIS INFILLING OF LOVE
- THE TONGUE DESTROYS LOVE
- YOU ARE ADOPTED BUT STILL BELIEVE YOU ARE AND ORPHAN
- BECAUSE OF SIN LOVE DIES
- BECAUSE OF POOR FOCUS ON LOVE WE BECOME MORAL JUDGES AND NOT VESSELS OF LOVE & POWER
It is not about trying harder but about being desperate for the infilling of God's love. This is deadly dangerous because of what Jesus said, "No one has greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)
However when we get a taste of what God's love can do through us we will not love our lives so much as to shrink from death.
