Prayer of Faith
by Erik Momsen
All believers go through trials of many kinds and for me the trials where other people are involved seem tougher. I cannot make decisions for them and I wonder if my prayer over them will even work. Possibly the most difficult things to bear are the pains and struggles of those we love.
I asked the Lord this very question in the past week. “Do my prayers over those I love have any real power and authority? Is it not just my own decisions and prayers for my own life that work?”
In an instant the single word “Gap” popped to mind and I was blessed to follow that trail.
Ezekiel 22:30 "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none."
Ezekiel 13:5 "Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD."
Psalm 106:23 "Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them."
Isaiah 64:7 "And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities."
Jeremiah 5:1 "Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it."
- Is it possible that the prayers & righteousness of one can bring relief for many others ????
- God seeks to pardon & love his people & He looks for excuses to do so.
- The same heart is seen in Abraham's debate with God over Sodom - why did Abraham stop at 10?
- Even though these passages have a negative twist to them I know that if I am the man who “stands” there will be results!!!
- I have seen a word from God – I know Him to be true & faith rises to meet that truth.
- I will stand for those who God breaks my heart for & I will see the salvation of the Lord.
PRAY & NEVER GIVE UP
The ultimate prayer is the prayer of and for salvation. When the Lord truly has a man's heart then his whole life is covered and the battle is won.
We talk about “seek first the Kingdom of God” but then we pray all kinds of prayers that have nothing to do with people's hearts being devoted and submitted to Jesus.
The big “battle loser” is that we give up on our prayers – we lose faith.
“Jesus told his disciples a parable about their need to pray all the time and never give up.” (Luke 18:1)
If believers would pray all the time and never give up THEY WOULD BE CHANGED & SO TOO THE WORLD AROUND THEM.
God gives authority for us to stand in the gap.
God looks desperately for any reason to break in & forgive & heal.
God looks for those who will stand & not give up.
Without faith we have nothing – only fear & defeat.
With faith we see God at work & live in joy.
James 5:15 "And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."
