Faith that pleases God

by Erik Momsen

Do this do that, don't do this don't do that.  I am not talking about your mother, mother-in-law or wife.  I am talking about all the religious voices around you.  You will get the legalists and on the other side the grace pundits.  There are so many “prophets” saying go this way, no that way.  We all have to drown out all the other voices and listen to One.

I think they call it FAITH.  Hearing the One God and having the conviction to follow His voice.  Faith is very close to Focus.  There is a focus required that listens to the One voice and acts on that.

There is a resounding verse of scripture that says:
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Just check yourself quickly to see if you want to please God. Good, so most of us say we want to please God. Then how do we go about pleasing Him.

In Hebrews 11:10 it describes Enoch as one who pleased God.  How did he please God?  Genesis 5:24 says “he walked with God”.  It says he walked with God for 300 years.  If you want to have a good talk with someone then take a walk with them.

Have you heard someone say, “Young man, come take a walk with me”.  I know people have this approach.  Next time someone says he want to “walk with me” I guess he wants to tell me what do do.  God is not like this!  He is the only true friend a man can have.  He is the only true, wise, God and I want every little bit of advice I can get from Him.

Noah is also a man “who walked with God” (Genesis 6:9)

MEN & WOMAN OF FAITH (Hebrews 11)

Faith starts with a belief in creation (v.3).  God made it out of nothing.  No, the big bang could not happen out of nothing.  You need almighty energy to have a big bang.  It must the stupidest lie and yet people want to believe it.
Faith does a “big bang” in my heart when I look at creation and see the great God behind it.  Endless living creature & endless variety!!!

Abel offered a better sacrifice than Cain.  He followed the directions of God as how to sacrifice.  Bring a lamb not some vegetables.  The lamb was God's sacrifice to predict “the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).  God directs our sacrifice and worship and we must listen. (PS he told us to worship in spirit & truth ???)

Noah walked with God and hence was able to exercise what seemed to be “foolish faith - blind faith”.  No one could see a flood of that magnitude and yet Noah could see, by faith what was coming.

Abraham was “the man of faith”. (Galatians 3:9)
He was called to go to a place he did not know and he went. (11:8)
He stayed in a place promised to him - yet it was not yet his. (11:9)
He held onto God's promise of a son & descendants even though dead in his body.
He obeys without question, God's command to sacrifice his son?????
God had told him “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned”. (11:18)
God made a promise and now seems to change His mind???
Abraham believes that God would raise Isaac from the dead ---- that is how he is able to give up his son and God's promise. (11:19)

“You see that his faith worked together with what he did, and by his actions his faith was made complete. And so the Scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." And so he was called God's friend”. (James 2:22,23)

To please God we “must believe ... that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him”.
His nature is to reward - but you must believe this.
Note Abraham's response to God's provision of a ram.
He called the place Jehovah Jireh - God my provider.
