Times are tough and will get tougher. Some will fall in a big way and others will survive to inherit the land. Underneath all this is the testing of faith. Prof Piet Naude of NMMU observes that the world is going though a crisis of trust (faith). The world used to trust its banks but this trust us gone and now the world does not know who or what to trust. The bottom has fallen out and and they do not know what to hold onto.
Our lives are shaken and with that our faith tested. James writes that trials test our faith and if we endure, maturity and completeness results and we will be wise (James 1:2-5).
Faith that is not tested is not real. You cannot have faith without difficulties. Before testing it is only a theory. Faith that survives a test receives blessings.
The state of faith in our city is worrying. Jesus says, “when the son of man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
The New testament uses the word "faith" 234 times. I count 8 times in the Gospels where Jesus says they have “little faith” (Matthew 6:30, 8:26, 14:31, 16:8, 17:20, Luke 4:40, 8:25, 12:28 ).
I count 13 times where Jesus says “your faith has …." (made you well, caused your forgiveness etc.) (Matthew 9:2,22,29 15:28, 21:21, Mark 2:5,5:34, 10:52, Luke 5:20, 7:50, 8:48, 17:19, 18:42)
Jesus told his disciples a parable about their need to pray all the time and never give up. He said, "In a city there was a judge who didn't fear God or respect people. In that city there was also a widow who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' For a while the judge refused. But later he told himself, 'I don't fear God or respect people, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice. Otherwise, she will keep coming and wear me out.'" Then the Lord added, "Listen to what the unrighteous judge says. Won't God grant his chosen people justice when they cry out to him day and night? Is he slow to help them? I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" (Luke 18:1-8)
PRAYER OR THE LACK OF IT IS A BAROMETER OF FAITH
FAITH = “Won't God grant his chosen people justice when they cry out to him day and night?"
FAITH NEEDS TO PERSIST UNTIL IT PRODUCES
BUT GOD'S PEOPLE GIVE UP
“While they were walking along early the next morning, they saw the fig tree dried up to its roots. Remembering what Jesus had said, Peter pointed out to him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has dried up!" Jesus told his disciples, "Have faith in God! I tell you with certainty, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' if he doesn't doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. That is why I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours. "Whenever you stand up to pray, forgive whatever you have against anyone, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins. But if you do not forgive, your Father in heaven will not forgive your sins." (Mark 11:20-26)
HAVE FAITH IN GOD – IT IS A COMMAND
DON'T GET CONFUSED ABOUT DROPPING MOUNTAINS!!!
CONVICTION OF THE TRUTH OF A PRAYER PRODUCES MIRACLES
CONVICTION COMES FROM HEARING (faith comes by hearing)
PRAYER & FORGIVENESS WORK TOGETHER
WHAT IS FAITH?????????
FOCUS ON WHAT GOD IS ABLE TO DO
FAITH = BELIEF IN ACTION - not a set of doctrines
FAITH = PURSUING THE UNSEEN PROMISES OF GOD
FAITH = HEARING AND OBEYING – God speaks & people act
FAITH = PLEASES GOD – ONLY FAITH
WHAT IS YOUR LEAP OF FAITH?
I will worship / I will study His Word / I will hear His voice
I will live an obedient life / I will forgive / I will give / I will love
I will trust HIM I will not fear !!!
