It's not a game
by Erik Momsen
Some quotes from a rugby website;
- Rugby - the missing link.
- Rugby is not just a sport, It's a way of life.
- Rugby is life, the rest are just details.
- In my Life, Rugby is not a sport, is not a work, is not a game, It's a Belief !!!
- If there's no Rugby team in Heaven, I'm not going...
- The whole point of rugby is that it is, first and foremost, a state of mind, a Spirit.
- Rugby is like war; easy to start, difficult to stop...and impossible to forget.
- To the world it's just a game, to some people it's the world.
PAUL - A SPORTS FAN
Paul, the man who is credited with brining the Gospel to the gentiles, was passionate unto death. He draws imagery from the world of human contest to show us that the gospel is not a past time or a hobby. The Gospel is not a game. The Gospel is everything. But few get this fact. Most see it as a hobby.
“To the weak I became weak in order to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some of them. I do all this for the sake of the gospel in order to have a share in its blessings. You know that in a race all the runners run but only one wins the prize, don't you? You must run in such a way that you may be victorious. Everyone who enters an athletic contest practices self-control in everything. They do it to win a wreath that withers away, but we run to win a prize that never fades. That is the way I run, with a clear goal in mind. That is the way I fight, not like someone shadow boxing. I keep on disciplining my body, making it serve me so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not somehow be disqualified." (1 Corinthians 9:22-27)
THE GOAL IS TO SAVE AS MANY AS POSSIBLE
THEY ARE THE GREAT PRIZE
OTHER PRIZES FADE
THERE IS STRICT TRAINING TO UNDERGO
THERE IS THE FLESH TO BE MASTERED
PAUL IS AWARE OF BEING DISQUALIFIED
“I went in response to a revelation, and in a private meeting with the reputed leaders, I explained to them the gospel that I'm proclaiming to the gentiles. I did this because I was afraid that I was running or had run my life's race for nothing." (Galatians 2:2)
“Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.” (Philippians 2:16)
IT IS A RACE OF FAITH
"For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?" (Galatians 5:6,7)
DON'T GET ENTANGLED BY SIN
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." (Hebrews 12:1)
THE END OF HIS LIFE IS NEAR
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:6-8)
THERE IS A GOAL
THERE IS A PRIZE
THERE IS A SACRIFICE TO BE MADE
THERE IS GLORY TO BE ATTAINED
