Words of Life

by Erik Momsen

I speak thousands of words every day.  Billions of words - e-mails, sms's, text of all kinds are sent around the world every day.  Most words are probably about buying cornflakes and lipstick.  Too many words are of hate and a lot of love is spread.  But do words have any real power?  Someone said the pen is mightier than the sword.

What does God think about words? What were the first words?
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light." (Genesis 1:3)
And ESKOM said, "We'll see about that".

Just in these few lines of text we see the contast between God and man.  God speaks and worlds are made --- humanity speaks destruction and derision too much of the time

You're fat, ugly, stupid, incompetent, lazy, unorganized, unproductive, white, black, Nigerian, Russian, South African .... hopeless, lost, dead ....

God commands "do not let any corrupt / unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up ..." (Ephesians 4:29).

So many people have been scared though foolish / corrupt / unwholesome words and this is not God's plan.

God does all things by His word.  He speaks and things happen.  He speaks and men live or die.  God has established the eternal truth that;
A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; he shall be satisfied with the product of his lips.  Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it."
(Proverbs 18:20-21)
 -  My great challenge is to get children to believe that they can win.
 -  The second challenge is to make them understand that to win you must work.
belief + action = traction

 -  What you say will come true.
 -  There is eternal / universal power in words.
 -  Choose them wisely.

"And Jesus said to him, I will come and heal him.  The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my boy will be healed.  For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me.  And I say to this one, Go! And he goes; and to another, Come! And he comes; and to my servant, Do this! And he does it.  When Jesus heard, He marvelled and said to those who followed, Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith, no, not in Israel." (Matthew 8:7-10)
 -  The centurion understand God's order of authority.
 -  If God says it it will happen - full stop.
 -  His faith leads him to speak it and it happens.

A little boy lived in expectation of the birth of his sister.  He sang to her daily, "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine .... "  She was born prem and was not expected to live.  As her life drained away Dad decided to let the boy see his sister.  He entered shocked to see the tubes and drips.  The only thing he could do was sing, "You are my sunshine ... you make me happy when skies are grey ... you'll never know how much I love you ... please don't take my sunshine away"  As he sang she started to live.  She recovered and left the hospital days later.
