East from the West

by Erik Momsen

What does God really want?  What is His plan?  Is He happy with the way things are going?

THREE THINGS FROM JESUS'S PRAYER

 1)  I believe the pre-eminent prayer of Jesus and the first thing on the Father's heart is the first request in the Lord's prayer.

God wants earth to look a little (really a lot) more like heaven.  He desires the peace, protection and prosperity of heaven to be the lot of humanity.  Lets face it, too many people experience hell on earth.  However, earth and heaven will come together one day (Revelation 21).

Earth will become more heavenly when His will is done.  His will is done in Heaven and hence peace, joy, provision, protection .... .

 2)  ALL provision comes from Him.  Most of us doggedly hold onto the fallacy that we make it happen.  Our provision is a gift.  I know I have been born into a measure of blessing.  Others have been born into abject poverty and few get out.

 3)  God will not forgive you if you do not forgive.  God has also put the measure of our blessing into our own hands.  God has said that what you sow you will reap.  Can you believe Him on this????

THREE THINGS JESUS WANTS YOU TO KNOW

Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors.
(Matthew 6:10-12)

FORGIVENESS - THE PATH TO PEACE & BLESSING

IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PRAYER JESUS SAYS THESE WORDS:
"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you;
but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
(Matthew 6:14,16 cf. 18:35, Mark 11:25,26)
 -  JESUS DID NOT DIE FOR YOU TO DO WHAT YOU WANT.
 -  HE DIED TO DESTROY DEATH & SIN - YOU MUST WALK IN.

YOU DONT FORGIVE BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT FORGIVEN!!!

Many believers walk around negative, depressed and even bitter.  Many of us are no fun to be with.  We do not live as if the greatest weight in the world has been lifted from our shoulders.  We are critical, judgmental, bigoted pharisees.

This is because we have forgotten what it feels like to be forgiven by the Lord of all Creation.  We have forgotten what it feels like to be free.

Perhaps some who call themselves believers have never experienced the forgiveness of Jesus.  We got some bible study and some religion but not the loving mercy and forgiveness of the one who said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do ..."  (Luke 23:34)

"As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us." (Psalm 103,12)

"East To West"

Here I am, Lord, and I'm drowning in your sea of forgetfulness
The chains of yesterday surround me
I yearn for peace and rest
I don't want to end up where You found me
And it echoes in my mind, keeps me awake tonight
I know You've cast my sin as far as the east is from the west
And I stand before You now as though I've never sinned
But today I feel like I'm just one mistake away from You leaving me this way.

Jesus, can You show me just how far the east is from the west
'cause I can't bear to see the man I've been come rising up in me again
In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
'cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other.

I start the day, the war begins, endless reminding of my sin
Time and time again Your truth is drowned out by the storm I'm in
Today I feel like I'm just one mistake away from You leaving me this way.

I know You've washed me white, turned my darkness into light
I need Your peace to get me through, to get me through this night
I can't live by what I feel, but by the truth Your word reveals
I'm not holding on to You, but You're holding on to me
You're holding on to me.

Jesus, You know just how far the east is from the west
I don't have to see the man I've been come rising up in me again
In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
'cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other.
