Xtreem Makeover @ Xmas
by Erik Momsen
What did you get for Christmas? Soap on a rope, ...? I hope no one has ever said to you, "Get a personality". I am not ashamed to say I got a personality at Christmas. Some get a personality from fermented drinks; I got a personality from the Son of God.
Image consultants, life coaches, personal trainers, xtreem makeovers --- you would think we are not happy with ourselves. You are perfectly correct. I heard from a health care professional, from the land of squeaky clean, that the single biggest pharmaceutical sale in Australia is Prozac. People are not happy with themselves. We try lovers, stuff, education, adventure, chemicals, violence ... but nothing makes us happy. There is a hole in the bucket dear Liza ...
WHAT I GOT @ XMAS
Before we start with this Xmas we need to go back to day one, sorry day six. The first time God talks about humanity He says;
"And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after our likeness. ... And God created man in His image; in the image of God He created him. He created them male and female." (Genesis 1:26,27)
We were made to be very much like God. Now none of us really knows what this means, BUT it is a very good thing. I think it means that in our inner-most being we are like God. In our spirit we were supposed to be connected to His Spirit. But that connection was severed in the Garden, they were driven out because of rebellion and the close relationship they had with God was lost. The unhappiness started.
PEOPLE HATE WHAT THEY SEE IN THE MIRROR
Who likes what they see in the mirror? Very few people do. Oprah asked Naomi Campbell, "When you look in the mirror do you see one of the most beautiful woman in the world?" With tears in her eyes she shook her head.
The biggest pop star in the world didn't like the look of his face and all that surgery cost him his life.
Lucy in the Chronicles of Narnia want to be beautiful like her sister and then she almost disappears because she becomes her sister. The gift of Aslan to the world, embodied in Lucy, was almost lost. There is no one like you but you want to be someone else.
We hate this Image - over feed it, pour chemicals into it, cut and reshape it. I hear the infomercial scolding me, "Tone your upper body and thighs ... "
JESUS DIDN'T COME FOR A PARTY BUT FOR WAR
He came to destroy the work of the evil one.
He came to set the captives free.
He came to bind up the broken hearted.
He came to restore the Image of God in us.
He became man - to be the first man - of a new breed of man - without holes and horrible habits - He becomes the 2nd new Adam - the new man our new self is modeled on.
"Since then you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. ... Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator." (Colossians 3:9,10)
- Christ came to give you a new life - raise you from the dead.
- He came to give you a new "self".
- Take the old self off.
- Have this new self renewed constantly.
- It is renewed but understanding the Creator.
- It is renewed as we see the image restored.
How much damage do we inflict on ourselves and others by holding to the old damaged self. Xp has given us a new self - washed the old one away - made us a new creation. He cannot love you more - now you need to love and forgive and accept yourself as He does.
This can be your birthday too. You can decide to release the old dead self and take the new Image Jesus has for you. Let Him be your image consultant, and not some media guru.
