"Hier sit die manne in die Royal Hotel
Ek ken mos vir almal, ek is almal se pêl" - David Kamer
Think of your friends or even your best friend. For some, many people come to mind, but for others it may be very difficult. We all know many people, but do we have good friends? Bono wrote about such a good friend;
I have a brother / when I'm a brother in need
I spend my whole time running / he spends his running after me
When I feel myself going down / I just call / and he comes around
for the first time / I feel love
WHAT IS FRIENDSHIP & WHY DO WE LACK?
Sometimes they cannot get in.
Sometimes there is no time for friends.
Sometimes there are too many people around to have friends.
Sometimes we move too fast to have friends.
Sometimes it is too tough to love us.
Perhaps a friend is someone who keeps catching up with you;
I just call and he comes around.
"As the Father has loved Me, so I have loved you; continue in My love. If you keep My commandments, you shall abide in My love, even as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. I have spoken these things to you so that My joy might remain in you and your joy might be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master does. But I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and ordained you that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it to you. These things I command you, that you love one another." (John 15:9-17)
- The greatest love is available to us - keep in it.
- Listen and love are inseparable - listen to Him, follow Him = love Him.
- We can have full joy.
- Now pass the love on that you received.
- You prove your friendship by obedience to love.
- Friends of God because He shares His deepest secrets with us.
- He has chosen us to be His friends.
A friend does not judge & reject / A friend will speak the truth / A friend will stick with you / A friend will be with you in the darkness.
"Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light." ~Helen Keller~
THERE IS ONLY ONE PERFECT FRIEND
"And the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he turned again to the camp. But his servant, Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the middle of the tabernacle. And Moses said to the LORD, Behold, You say to me, Bring up this people. And You have not told me whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight. Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found grace in Your sight, make me see now Your ways, that I may know You, that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people. And He said, My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest. And he said to Him, If Your presence does not go with me, do not carry us up from here." (Exodus 33:11-15)
- Again a friend knows his friend's mind.
- Moses' question is "who is going to go with me - through this hell-hole experience of leading these people?"
- Is Moses expecting an angel or a few more Joshua's?
- God says, "I will go with you myself ..."
- And by the way "I will give you rest!" ... it will not be as frightening as you think - You'll be able to eat in the presence of you enemies".
In the FINAL analysis no one can be there all the time, know your fears & pain, pick you up ..... No one but Jesus.
I was playing driver and had to wait for the return trip. I sat by myself, ordered breakfast and read my friend's letter to me for about an hour. I had stumbled on the best company anyone could imagine.
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of DEATH, I will fear no evil, your rod & staff comfort me." (Psalm 23)
