There must be more ...?

by Erik Momsen

Consuming Fire
There must be more than this / O breath of God, come breath within / There must be more than this / Spirit of God we wait for you / Fill us anew we pray x2
Consuming fire, fan into flame / A passion for your name / Spirit of God, fall in this place / Lord have our way / Lord have your way with us
come like a rushing wind / cloth us with power from on high / now set the captives free / leave us abandoned to your praise / Lord let you glory fall / Lord let you glory fall
Tim Hughes

There must be more than this" is a cry that so many have cried. It is the cry for life that lives in every creature. In many there is a sad desperation that is never fulfilled. "Life must be more than this. I need to get more out of life. We must live life to the full". These are the cries but wherein is the answer.

For many the answer lies in getting more or doing more. There is a deep dissatisfaction that we try to fill or cover but created things will not do. The answer lies with the Creator.

The most repeated phrase of Jesus on the topic of life has to do with an exchange.  Hand in the old life and get a new one.  Let the old ideas and habits die and a new one will be raised.

"He who finds his life shall lose it.  And he who loses his life for My sake shall find it." (Matthew 10:39) - Throw it away - those who live to serve others do well - HE is the only one to cling to!

"Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  ...  For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things." (Matthew 6:25,32) - life cannot come from dead things.

"And He said to them, Watch and keep yourselves from covetousness.  For a man's life is not in the abundance of the things which he possesses." Luke 12:15

LIFE IS NOT ......... WORK
"But Martha was distracted with much serving.  And she came to Him and said, Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?  Therefore tell her to help me. And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things.  But one thing is needful, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:40-42)  Work is not bad, but being burdened by it is.  Work without joy is a problem.

LIFE IN LIGHT - "Then Jesus spoke again to them, saying, I am the Light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12) - life is a power - from God.

LIFE FROM HEAVEN - "For the bread of God is He who comes down from Heaven and gives life to the world." (John 6:33) - a gift of God right now!

LIFE IN THE SPIRIT - "It is the Spirit that makes alive, the flesh profits nothing.  The words that I speak to you are spirit and are life." (John 6:63) - Life starts in your spirit touched by The Spirit and flows out.

LIFE IN LOVE - "Keep yourselves in the love of God, eagerly awaiting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to everlasting life." (Jude 1:21)
"We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brothers. He who does not love his brother abides in death." (1 John 3:14)
If God is Love then what ever is done in Love will bring life.

LIFE IN REPENTANCE & REJOICING - "Will You not give us life again, so that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, O LORD, and grant us Your salvation." (Psalm 85:6,7)
- here is a process that brings life - repenting (changing your thinking) - rejoicing - life

LIFE IN TRUTH - "Then Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." (John 6:68)

"I have been crucified with Christ, and I live; yet no longer I, but Christ lives in me.  And that life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith toward the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself on my behalf." (Ephesians 2:20)
The old man has to die and has died in Christ.  I now live focused on the Life of Christ and He pours His eternal life into me.  His Spirit, Hope, Light, truth, joy, new mind ......

"Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold on eternal life, ... " ( 1 Timothy 6:12)
